apache crossfire
153,160,167,174,181
115/68/99 (16m)
Modified. The Crossfire continues as a solid, well-mannered, predictable, smooth, damp, mainstream K2 front side all purpose ski. In the word of one tester, "Enjoyable." K2 fans will feel at home; skiers who have not skied K2 in the past are urged to try any K2 before buying. They have a distinctive feel that skiers seem either to love or hate.

apache X
153,160,167,174,181
115/68/99 (16m)
Modified. even easier to ski than the Crossfire, but still with acceptable mid-range performance. Wide skill level envelope, a good choice for level 6 - 8 skiers developing high end carving skills. Forgiving. OK in bumps, although fairly damp.

K2 has promoted female-specific skis as strongly as anyone; the T-Nine skis are among the best selling of the genre. The modified Burnin' Luv, a woman's version of the Crossfire, remains one of the best high-performance female-specific skis for the front side. OK in mild off-piste conditions, smooth, easy turning and predictable. The BL received more favorable comments from our female testers than did the Crossfire from their male counterparts, FWIW, and more favorable reviews by percentage than any other female-specific ski.

t-nine one luv
146,153,160,167
115/68/99 (13m)
Female analog to the Apache X. Slightly less stability and top end performance than the BL, quite forgiving. A good ski for several-season skiers beginning to build strong carving skills and to venture into 3D terrain. Better in bumps than the more energetic BL.

Modified, but still in the hunt as a premier value ski for skiers who are beginning rapid improvement. Good performance, easy and forgiving, tolerant of skidded technique but responds well to cross under carving.

Slightly modified. Should be called the Apache "Reliable." Excellent all  mountain ski, with solid hard snow performance. Damp, stable and still fairly lively. Can be balky with steering technique.

Female-specific version of Recon. Similar feel, according to our female testers, although not quite as high-performance. Great in crud, smooth, solid. The word "fun" cropped up on many test cards.

apache outlaw
167,174,181,188
124/88/111 (19m)
Great contender for 90mm off-piste ski, although does not have the same carving prowess as some others, e.g. the Head m88 and Dynastar 8800. Best in crud, soft snow, deep snow and other non-bumps 3-D conditions. Best at speed. Alaska, Snowbird, Jackson, Squaw... you know who you are!

Apache Chief
167,174,181,188
131/98/116 (24m)
Big mountain monster-plank. Strong skills, high energy and aggressive input required. Not a relaxing, general purpose ski by any stretch of imagination. Consider only if a serious back-country wide-ride is needed.

Modified for '06. Female-specific equivalent to Chief and/or Outlaw, but more versatile than  either and less demanding in female skier terms. One of K2's best and most appreciated models.

Who thinks up these names? Is punk still in? K2 apparently aims its main marketing message squarely at 15 to 25 year old skiers and whether they get the obscure reference to a long gone 80's band or not, the ski should do well with the huck and jib set.

Apparently it's "cool" to name an entire collection after wannabe street thugs. We don't get it, but the ski got fairly good reviews. Limited purpose park/pipe  and big mountain ski. For the right skier, probably a good combination. For most, especially skiers who will never see the inside of a half-pipe or ride a rail, there are better big mountain choices  among "mainstream" models.

Still unchanged, except for the new cosmetics. "Good for citizen racing, roaring around the groomed at, well, mach speed. Strong skiers. Smooth, predictable, but not in the same race league as other brand's laminates, which is actually better for recreational patrol-dodging. Very, very smooth."

Though little remembered, it is a fact that Bode Miller began his serious competitive career using off-the-shelf K2 GS and slalom skis. K2 is not exactly a powerhouse on the World Cup, but their race skis are still excellent choices for Masters racers. Summed up perfectly by one skier: "Racer or ex-racer seeking short radius ski."
